National Ocean Exploration Forum 2016 Final Report including summary and recommendations — Download Report

A cross section of stakeholders created this Forum to bring together the variety of perspectives America needs to excel in ocean exploration. The 2016 Forum theme was "Beyond the Ships." In the interval 2020-2025 the current dedicated ocean exploration ships may no longer be regularly available. Even with good availability, regions such as the Arctic would be underserved.

The 2016 Forum looked to a future of expanded exploration activities by making more platforms capable of measuring, sampling, or imaging yet-to-be explored areas. Expanding spatial coverage and reducing cost of data collection are key ocean exploration priorities over a ten year time horizon.
