We have posted a revised agenda.

Chauncey Starr, one of the people who challenged us to think 1000 years ahead, offers brief comments for the workshop:

Jesse Ausubel's and Cesare Marchetti's paper "Science and the Next 1000 Years" is the essay that got us started toward this meeting:

10 September 2003

For background reading for the 9-10 October, we post two papers:

2 September 2003

We have posted the draft agenda.

15 April 2003

We have posted the present list of participants. 3-4 additional scientists from The Rockefeller University are expected to join the meeting, for example, with expertise in cloning.

We plan to post the draft agenda by early May.

1 April 2003

We create the site for the Next 1000 Years Workshop.

Among the subjects we might discuss are:

  • sex, gender, human numbers
  • diet, health
  • time and money
  • work and leisure
  • energy and transport
  • aggression and violence
  • environmental change
  • spatial diffusion of innovations (globalization)
  • information and privacy

One occasion for the workshop is that my Italian colleague Cesare Marchetti and I are writing a book titled The World's Progress. Parts of the book will discuss the next 1000 years. We aim to have an advanced book manuscript for the meeting.
